Chiang Mai International Airport Train Transfers

Chiang Mai railway station (SRT Code: CGM) is a first-class and central railway station in the province of Chiang Mai. The train station is located east of the province's Ping River.

This railway station has ten daily trains, except Eastern and Oriental Express trains. In addition, there are also four to six special trains for holidays such as New Year, Songkran, and other unique festivals celebrated in the metro.

In 2004, according to the station's census, Chiang Mai Station served nearly 800,000 passengers.

On January 1, 1922, Chiang Mai station opened for standard gauge rolling stock service. The station's first train was the Lampang–Chiang Mai mixed train, and later added a train called Lamphun–Chiang Mai mixed train.

On January 15, 1922, the Lamphun-Chiang Mai mixed train became the second Lampang-Chiang Mai mixed train.

On November 1, 1922, Northern Express was introduced to Chiang Mai. The Northern Express uses Baldwin Pacific locomotives and Swiss Consolidation locomotives; both were meter gauged and submitted on December 21, 1926.

In 1928–1929, the Hanomag Pacific locomotive replaced Baldwin Pacific.

On March 5, 1933, French diesel-electric locomotives replace steam locomotives for the Northern Express. It is after a test run held in November of 1931.

On April 11, 1933, the excursion train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai was also introduced.

On December 21, 1943, the first Chiang Mai Railway Station was destroyed by bombs during the war and was rebuilt in 1945.

On August 4, 1946, the Northern Express service resumed operation and reopened for public use in 1948.

Presently, the station is owned and operated by the State Railway of Thailand.

Chiang Mai Railways Station has 14 daily departures. Extra trains typically travel during public holidays, while the Eastern and Oriental Express occasionally comes to Chiang Mai for special tourist excursions.

For train tickets, selling counters are located directly on the station's right side upon entering the front entrance. Two booths are available for ticket purchase.

Tickets are also available online for advance purchase.

Local and foreign visitors may be asked to present their passports for verification purposes.
